After initially working with Don Amott Leisure Parks in 2014 on the WiFi provision at the company’s Lakeside Park situated on the East Coast, which expanded to cover the entire site in 2015, Digital Unity Group’s relationship with Don Amott Leisure Parks has expanded significantly in recent months.

Nettleton Park, based in the Wolds, was successfully installed in March 2016 with Willows Park following closely behind in May. Given the rural location of these sites, their unique topology and user needs, working with Don Amott presented a unique opportunity for DigitalUnity Group to enter the holiday park industry and further increase the company’s growing horizontal market coverage.

As an industry specialist in delivering wireless broadband coverage to locations suffering from poor internet connectivity, DigitalUnity Group now operates WiFi networks at three of Don Amott’s holiday parks with a view to expand to additional sites in the near future.

By their very nature, many holiday parks are based in remote locations and whilst this is a pull-factor for many people seeking to get away from the stresses of daily life, for mainstream ISPs providing high-quality, robust internet connectivity can be a challenge. Not only do such locations suffer from a lack of last-mile connectivity and poor mobile signal, but also there is the added complexity of delivering high-speed WiFi connectivity into metal-framed caravans or holiday homes themselves often arranged in differing layouts without suitable infrastructure on which to mount networking equipment.

Ultimately, this means that conventional ISPs lack the business model to be able to provide such locations with reasonably priced internet connectivity.

For Don Amott Parks, this was no different until Digital Unity Group was selected as the supplier of choice capable of using the latest developments in wireless technology to create bespoke solutions to best meet the needs of Don Amott and its customers.

At Lakeside Park, as well as providing free WiFi connectivity to customers in the leisure and recreational areas of the site, such as the bar area, four custom designed 4m weatherproof lamp-posts were strategically installed in the touring area of the park which could not be reached directly by WiFi coverage from the complex’s central resort building.

By placing the 2.4Ghz WiFi hotspots in close proximity to the caravans and touring homes themselves, Digital Unity Group has been able to overcome many of the issues surrounding the provision of WiFi in such locations in a cost-effective, long-term, performance enhancing way.

Alongside finding new and innovative ways of delivering WiFi connectivity, Don Amott’s parks still suffered from a lack of high-speed broadband availability. Whilst Digital Unity Group supplies the very highest speeds available to ensure users receive the best level of service possible, additional planning went into ensuring the resilience of the service taking into account the often-problematic nature of remote broadband and the forecasted usage patterns of the network.

Unlike other WiFi providers who provide time restricted services at 1-2Mbps, Digital Unity Group provides all network users with up-to 4Mbps connectivity and unlimited downloads regardless of how long they holiday for. This is perfect for helping to keep the children entertained, watching a family film on a rainy-day, keeping on top of work with email access or in finding nearby tourist spots to visit.  More so, site owners can see how the network is performing through our “Intulytics©” analytics portal provided at no additional cost.

The solution provided means that Don Amott customers in need of WiFi can get online without having to worry about expensive WiFi packages or being penalised for using too much data, all whilst trying to enjoy a well-deserved break.

For Don Amott and other caravan/leisure park owners, providing WiFi for customers has become increasingly essential as a deciding factor on destination and return business, with customers expecting WiFi to be available regardless of whether they intend to use it or not.
